I was wondering about that - but the Doctor's braces were suspending my disbelief.

Very awesome. I am accepting your theory as personal canon.

Ooh, does this mean that males of the species are non-venemous, and why the warrior caste seems to be made up entirely of females (with males in scientific and political positions)? I think there's precedent for that in nature - although not I think in reptiles since so few reptiles are venemous.

If they were venom sacs, though, wouldn't they be on the males as well?

Not necessarily. There are other gender-specific defenses. I believe bee drones have no sting, though I could be wrong.
