Just to play Devils' Advocate - the Silurians are meant to be homo reptilius, right? Which means at some point, some distant ancestors had sex with reptiles and created humanoid reptilians, while their mates had sex with apes and created humanoid apes.
So therefore the ancestors would presumbaly have had two eyes, ears, mouth and of course mammary glands ;)
By "some distant ancestors" you mean of humans? It's confusing when they're actually from, but it's definitely before any type of human evolved. They're supposed to have evolved their similarities to human form independently, or if anything maybe humans got it from them, not the other way around.
I'm pretty sure the Doctor just made that name up off the top of his head and got it wrong. Again.
Anyway, mammary glands postdate the platypus...but on the other other hand, they [silurians] seem to be contemporaneous with apes...man, I'm really thinking too hard about this...
When all is said and done, your explanation is equally consistent with the so-called facts as any other. MST3K Mantra!
