So what's the verdict? Stop sharing and trying to civilize, leave them alone to swim in their own muck? Or give up as much as you possibly can to try to help the unenlightened?
I think you've hit on the right conclusion, that there will always be people who have more than others, for whatever reason - accident of birth, ability, luck, etc., and a bunch more who want it also, but were not so lucky or smart. Luck, frankly, sucks, so I would like to see a meritocratic world. (A dude I know says "We all get the government we deserve.")
To be fair, though, the rules must be the same for both rich and poor, the haves and the have-nots, so as not, out of guilt or misguided pity, try to help the poor stay poor. The system should be set up to favor mobility according to ability; anything else would have to be private charity.

The first paragraph states some very good questions. I am pessimistic that anything can be done to change this chain of events (the waves of violence). At best, some strategies can be applied to defend against the violence, but, eventually, there will always be flare ups

:) Thank you for pointing out that what I stated is my opinion, and that I look out for my own self-interest. The last paragraph follows quite logically, to me, though it does skip a few steps of reasoning, namely that to keep a meritocratic world as such, that's what I think the rules should be.
I guess your philosophical mood is about stating your thoughts, not discussion. Fair enough.

I see. Your last paragraph was stating what would follow from your supposition that a "meritocratic world" is the only desirable/reasonable goal. Well, I've already rejected that premise. I really do not see why everyone would chose a "meritocratic world". In fact, most people at most times in most places in history have been rejecting this notion. It is certainly not universal.
Such a world-view may be benefitial to technological progress and advancement of our civilization, but most people do not care much about these things. Some people primerelly care about the advancement of their religious interests. Most people primerelly care about the advancement of their own immediate interests.
As for my statements whether your argument is self-dealing, I'd recommend you reread what I said. I said that your argument would cetainly *appear* self-dealing to someone who is poor and possesses little "merrit".
