I really want to start writing but I don't know how the whole thing works. I'm going to have to read this after I'm done writing my stupid 10 page poetry paper.
Sweet, I'm glad this could help you out some! (Actually, I should probably go back and add in a little bit about pronouns, verbs, and active voice while I still remember to.)
The most important guideline (perhaps I should go add this in too) is to just remember to have fun when with your writing. The more you read and the more experience you get writing, the better you'll be. (Haha, this is making me remember when I first started out writing fanfic. Thinking about the way I squished my paragraphs together and made tender references to "the shorter boy" makes me both cringe and LOL, hehehe!)
It makes me so nervous thinking about writing something and then having people read it. I dunno LOL I'm lame. I just don't want to suck (obviously) hah.
I can't wait until school calms down a bit so I can actually read through some more fanfics. I bet your stuff is fantastic by the way!
My paper is about poetry in the Romantic Period. I have to pick a particular poem and then connect it to the Romantic Period. Mine's on John Keat's 'Ode to a Nightingale.' It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't have to be so long. After 5 pages I feel like I'm just bullshitting the rest LOL.
Default formatting is love. Seriously. Studies have been done that say there is a good reason for: sans serif font, spaces between paragraphs, black on white, and a minimum of 9pt font. Why do people insist on being "special" in presentation? Isn't it more important that we read the damn story? I actually refuse to read stories if there is no space between the paragraphs because there is no handy little reformat, but I also get tired of constantly having to type in ?style=mine.
