Y/N? I'm leaning towards yes - well, today, anyway.

Which is tricky, because I use 'fan' to mean different, somewhat overlapping things, sometimes in the same sentence. I am a fan of this, but not a fan, you

OMG little ifreet and her friend Bilbo! ♥♥♥
Do you still read Sentinel?
I rarely exchange emails or IMs directly with anyone, because I worry about imposing. I still usually feel like I don't quite know how all this works.
ME TOO!! I don't get the chat thing at all. I feel like I'm saying "please drop everything and talk to meeeee". I've only participated in scheduled chat.
I'm okay with friending though. I've never asked if I can friend someone. I just do it. I've never had a problem.

I do sometimes? Usually when someone I know posts a rec, but every once in awhile I go looking on my own. (I've actually set up an lj message for this one WIP I've been reading.)
Yay, it's not just me! That's why I like the idea of the fandom chats comm, and kinda hope it doesn't shut down. It feels less pushy. For the record, if I've remembered to turn my IMs on, I'm available.
I worry overmuch about friending. I know this, but I do anyway.

And of course three other versions of that have now run through my head. I wish, I weren't still just a lurker.
also, is it sad that I actually find this post enlightening and not the least bit boring?

Hee. OH, HOW WRONG I WAS.
You could start by being a commenter in one of your fandoms. There're a couple ds fen whom I only know from comments on various people's fics, but they're totally part of the fandom. Comments lead to conversations. I don't find that sad, I find it flattering. ♥

I also had a mad TMNT obsession. One of the saddest days of my childhood was when they cancelled their concert at the Radisson. Remember the "Coming Out of Our Shells" tour? I can still sing the songs...

I totally remember the Coming Out of Our Shells (Pizza Hut) tour. I talked my mom into the pay-per-view concert. (And then nearly got in enough trouble that she wouldn't let me watch it! Which obviously was traumatic!) I think I could probably sing along if you started singing - at least I'd be able to join in on the choruses.

I was very much a lurker, too, but we probably were reading the gwml over the same period of time. That's pretty cool! If you quit reading GWA at M, you didn't get to the author I found odd - Sephiroth. Those stories were really... random.

And, like you, I feel that dS is my first (and really, only) fandom - i.e., a community of fans in which I participate.
