It's not a rumor. It's truth. From the mouths of Polaroid themselves. Although they are offering up the technology and formulas up for sale, so if another company chooses to purchase it then maybe something good will still happen.
Also, they're discontinuing all fiml products. They stopped making cameras like a year ago, and any other film related products are either already discontinued, or will be in the very near future.
They're only doing digital or electronic media now.
Hopefully some company buys the patents of whatever it is and starts making instant film. Other than that I don't really use Polaroid film products. It's funny because my dad used to work for them.
He worked for AGFA too and they went under. AGFA made some decent film too.
if you like the look of things like polaroid transfers (which is what I'm assuming you would be learning in school this semester anyway) then you should google inkjet transfers. Very different process, but much less toxic, and probably a hell of a lot cheaper, with a similar dreamy look. I have yet to try them because I never have time to breathe, let alone experiment with art on the side, but they're on my to-do list of things to play with.
Sounds interesting. I'll have to look into it. We haven't gotten a polaroid day lab yet because RIC froze the art programs or something stupid. But in general I fucking love instant film. I love that crappy fuzzy look, but only with polaroid cameras. Fuzzy washed out 35mm makes me gag a little.
