100 Things #009

High time for an update on all of the things I've been knitting!

----

My main knitting priority over the last month has been Lilian's baby blanket. The baby is due any day now, and the blanket is finished!

The blanket consists of 5 strips of fabric, which in turn consist of 5 colour blocks. Each block is 15x15 cm (6x6 inches), so the whole blanket is roughly 75x75 cm.
Like I've already mentioned, this blanket is a co-op between me and my mom. I knit 2 strips, mom knit 3. I blocked each strip individually. Mom then crocheted along the long sides of the strips, after which I seamed them together. Finally, mom crocheted around the whole thing, creating a nice finishing edge. And now I'm blocking it again to even out the edges.
It was roughly based on this pattern.

Anyway, on to a picture:

(This was taken pre-blocking, so it looks a bit wonky still)

----

Sometimes I couldn't work on the blanket because I had to wait for mom to finish something, so I had a small side-project.
I'd spun up some merino top on my spinning wheel and turned it into a 2-ply yarn. I'd spun it quite thin, so I could ply it with itself without getting an insanely bulky yarn.
I ended up with about 105 metres/44 grams - not bad!

Here's a picture of the ball of yarn after I'd already used up over half of it:

And I'm making it into either a cowl or a hat. If I have enough yarn I'll make a hat, otherwise I'll just end it with a bit of 1x1 rib and it'll be a cowl.
It's knitting up quite nicely. The yarn was quite uneven, and it adds a nice touch to the knitted fabric. Awesomesauce!

As you can see in the pictures, the yarn is a bit yellow-ish. I'm not a big fan of this colour, so I might dye it after I finish knitting.
