Macie update

I just got the call that Macie is out of surgery and in the ICU. Everything went well and she may come home as soon as tomorrow.

I won't be able to see her for a while though -  she has to stay as near to immobile as possible for two months, which means she can't be allowed to get excited and she has to stay in her kennel 24/7, except for a few ( Read more... )

I'm still seriously worried about her. The vets don't seem to understand what we're saying about her behavior. Macie is an active and excitable dog - if she has to be still, she needs to be *sedated*.

Oh dear :(

Will the vets give you sedatives for her?

I'm glad everything went well! Hopefully the recovery won't be too bad. The good thing about dogs is that once she's better, she'll forget all about having to be confined. :)

(I was reading your other comments, and there should be something you could give her to keep her calm! The vet should take you seriously. :( I know that there are some herbal things that are made specifically for that purpose, and my mom was told to give one of our dogs benadryl before long car trips because she would get so anxious and scared.)

I've been thinking about the benadryl option, but I don't want to mess with her histamine response because she's got such a risk for infection.

She's got a longer memory than you might think. Macie is without at doubt the smartest dog I've ever met - this is not me being biased, because I love every mangy stray I meet. ^_^; Dad and sister tested her once and she has the language comprehension of the average toddler.

(I should add that the language comprehension of toddler's is Sister's professional specialty)

That's true, I wouldn't have thought of that.

That's awesome! There's always an exception, of course. :D
