Draco Malfoy wasn’t just having a bad day, Draco Malfoy was having a bad hair day. Harry was alerted to this when he was munching on a slice of toast and listening to the news in the kitchen that morning before he heard a piercing shriek erupt from upstairs. Almost tripping over his own legs in his hurried attempt to get off the stool, he ran to the stairs, grabbing his wand from the kitchen counter as he did so. More screams greeted him as he got to the second floor and he burst into their bedroom breathlessly.

“What’s wrong?” he asked anxiously, immediately scanning the bedroom for any signs of danger. “Why were you…” His voice trailed off as he finally took in Draco and, more to the point, his hair and all the memories of last night came flooding back.

“What’s WRONG!?” roared Draco furiously. “Are you fucking blind?”

Harry opened his mouth to tell him that it didn’t look so bad, before he thought better of it and shuffled from one foot to the other nervously. Draco had been blinding drunk last night, Harry too, although he could actually stand on two legs without toppling over, which is probably why he had thought it a good idea to brazenly suggest that he performed the nightly ritual of washing Draco’s hair because Draco was in no capable state to do so. He just prayed Draco didn’t remember reluctantly agreeing to this.

Draco screamed again and now Harry was in the same room, the sound was deafening. “I’m just going to… leave,” Harry said, backing out of the bedroom. He shut the door, not waiting for a response and ran down the stairs two at a time. He heard crashes and bellows of hatred and he knew that Draco’s shock had now been replaced with Draco’s anger and his going downstairs was a very smart decision indeed. Though not smart enough, as he heard the bedroom door being flung open and Draco stomping loudly downstairs. Shit! He manoeuvred himself swiftly into the nearest door and shut it as softly as he could. He was left in near darkness and standing in the freezing cold garage, barefoot and wearing nothing but his boxer shorts. He didn’t dare flick on the light switch, or even cast a spell as he feared the slightest noise would incur Draco’s wrath.

“HARRY!” Draco hollered. His voice was so close Harry reckoned he was standing on the other side of the door. He was in deep trouble, he knew it.

“HARRY!” There was no more beating around the bush and Harry took a deep breath before he opened the door.

“What were you doing in there?” Draco asked sharply but then wailed before Harry could even think up a lie. “My hair!” he cried tearfully. “What’s happened to my hair?” He broke into sobs and fell into Harry’s open arms, who made soothing noises and said “there there,” in all the right places, stroking the back of his neck and being very careful not to come into contact with any of his newly-green locks of hair.

The doorbell rang and Draco wrestled himself from Harry’s embrace. “Who’s that!?” he asked in anguished tones.

“Well I don’t know, I haven’t answered the door yet, have I?” A smart response like that would have earned him a glare at the very least but Draco was far too busy panicking to scold.

“Get rid of them” he whispered, pushing Harry towards the front door and shutting himself in the garage.

Harry summoned his dressing gown over to him and quickly tied it before opening the door. He was greeted with the sight of a very embarrassed-looking Hermione and a bored-looking Ron.

“Sorry to drop by unannounced,” Hermione greeted, pushing her way past Harry and into the house, pulling Ron after her. “But we thought it our absolute duty to come round and clean up after the party last night.”

Harry shut the door and looked at her confusedly. “There isn’t anything to clean up.”

“Well you never know!” Hermione replied shrilly, casting her gaze across the floor. Harry looked at Ron who just shrugged.

“Hermione, you didn’t have to come round -”

“Well we were the last to leave, Harry!”

“No you weren’t. Cho and Luna didn’t leave until -”

“She’s lost something,” Ron explained.

“Ron!” Hermione exclaimed. She hesitated and then looked at Harry. “Actually, I did lose something - I think I might have dropped it in the garage.”

“Well you can’t go in there,” Harry said hurriedly.

“Why?”

“Hey, where’s Malfoy?” Ron suddenly said with a snicker.

Harry swallowed. “Why do you ask?”

Ron collapsed into laughter and Harry was perplexed as to why Hermione was trying to hide a smile too. “What are you laughing at?”

“You rang last night mate,” Ron explained.

“You rang both of us - at least four times,” Hermione added.

“And you were going on and on about not letting Malfoy find out that you dyed his hair green and at one point you were actually sobbing and you…” Ron stopped in mid sentence and all three of them looked to the garage door that was slowly opening…
