They went out again with James, who was over for an extended week-long visit. Barney dragged Ted along to the gay bar ("Ted, chicks totally let down their guard in here, even YOU could score…") and, naturally, abandoned him seconds after they arrived.
So Ted haunted the bar, talked to too few girls and fended off the advances of too many guys. He was about to leave when Barney dashed past him, coming to an stop so rapidly that he practically left a cartoon-style outline in the air. He slammed Ted against the wall and kissed him with a frantic passion that was (frankly) so utterly surprising that Ted didn't even fight back.
A few seconds later, Barney broke the kiss and Ted opened his eyes. He hadn't even realised he'd closed them!
Barney's eyes were darting frantically around the bar. "Is she there?"
Ted shook his head to clear it. "What? Who?"
"Is she there, Ted? Brunette? Slutty red dress? Can you see her?"
Ted still felt a little shaky. Not to mention violated.
"No, Barney. No, I can't see a slutty brunette. Now, will you please explain exactly why you just KISSED ME?"
Barney gave Ted a look. "I was hiding. From the crazy girl in the red dress. She threatened to shove a glass in my face."
"You were hiding? You couldn't have kissed a GIRL?"
"Ted, it's a gay bar."
Ted shook his head, incredulously. He took a sip of his beer, mainly to take away the taste of Barney. He felt uncomfortably hot and there were feelings in the pit of his belly that were so, SO wrong.
"Besides, chicks totally dig two hot guys making out."
Ted choked on his beer. "What?"
Barney laughed lightly. "I know, right? I thought that was just guys and lesbians. But apparently it works the other way round as well."
Ted wiped his mouth, shakily. "So where's James?"
Barney looked around, pointing in the direction of a couple of go-go boys, dancing in a cage. "Over there. My god it looks like he's being hit on by a "two"! Gotta dash. He needs saving. Later, dude."
And with that, he was gone. It took Ted a few minutes to compose himself, all the time trying to think of anything un-arousing. This wasn't helped by the fact that there were two girls standing a few feet away from him who were holding hands, one of them playing with the other girl's hair. Ted swallowed, his mouth suddenly dry. What he needed was another beer. No, something stronger.
Slam!
He was pushed into the wall again, firm lips locked against his. Stars exploded behind his eyes as a lively, very clever tongue invaded his mouth and he felt the drag of stubble across his chin.
Barney stepped back, breathing hard and grinning widely.
"Just checking," He said, and adding, "See ya!" before running off again.
Ted's heart was beating a little too fast and this time, he couldn't ignore the arousal that was spreading through him, unwanted and insistent.
There was a cute girl standing by the pillar next to him. He smiled at her and she winked back. Perhaps Barney was right. Perhaps he could totally hit that. Trouble was, he'd probably be thinking of Barney.
