"Hey, I'll win it back in Vegas," he quips, and Lily "accidentally" steps on his toe with her stiletto heel.

Man, I love your Ted voice in this piece! Especially your explanation of his costume: He tells everyone it's symbolic of the post-Obama, post-recession malaise, but really he just thinks the costume looks pretty kick-ass. And I loved you showing how he's still wrestling with being in love with Robin, even in spite of her relationship with Barney and how he already came to terms with their own breakup. Because part of him always will be in love with Robin, and it seems so few writers are afraid to explore that because it will lead to backlash from all the hardcore BroTP shippers. It's part of the reason why I hardly ever mention it in the RP.

Anyway, loved this. (And Lily would read slash fic on the internet. I just know it.)

1) Icon win

2) NPH seems OBSESSED that if they did any emotional exploration of Barney and Robin's relationship it would somehow drag out the show and make it too long. WFT? Barney/robin had a relationship from about May to October. COME ON! That is long enough to develop complex emotions. BLOODY STUPID WRITERS. Stop giving us FAT SUITS and OOC STUPID SITUATIONS and write some fricking REAL EMOTION.

Aww, I loved this. And I totally agree - I think a part of Ted is still holding onto this idea of Robin as the perfect girl, and will always love her. I don't think that he'll get over her at least until we meet the Mother (if then).

(And ha, Lily totally WOULD ship Kirk/Spock, and I'm saying this as a Kirk/McCoy fan.)

Indeed! And I would have loved to have seen Ted struggle just a little more when Barney and Robin were in a relationship. He seemed to take it all way too well.

I'd like to think that now Lily/Robin send each other slash fiction recs. Because they're dirty. :-)

Well, I think that Ted was cool with it, and the writers made him cool with it, at least partly because of how extreme his reaction was to when Barney and Robin slept together. If Ted had been against them getting together, he'd just seem like a huge jerk. But, yeah, I do agree that we could've seen Ted be not entirely OK with it, while still keeping him sympathetic.

Damn. Why hasn't someone done an epic season five re-write yet?

I think that the whole Robin 101 thing was just... creepy. If you think about it, I'm okay with Ted being able to COPE with Barney/Robin, just about, and be supportive. But to say some of that stuff to Barney? I mean, that's assuming Barney NEEDED advice from Ted in the first place, when Barney was quite capable of being with Robin on his own.

And I'd say Metal Heart is a reasonably good rewrite of season 5 wrt BrOTP. ;-)

And all the other writers are just too bloody depressed. I hardly did any episode followups, or even blogged, about any of this season until recently.

It killed my enthusiasm even to fan wank.

Robin scares me just a little in this one... Is that just me?

But I love that Ted's still a little in love with Robin. And a little not okay with Barney being with Robin.

Yeah, she is a little agressive in this one. I think because I felt there had to be some signifcant cracks WAY earlier in their relationship for them to melt down so spectacularly later on.

I like the way you explored residual feelings Ted has towards Robin and you did it using such a great Ted voice too.

Also loved the Star Trek references and Lily being a slash fan. Heh. Heh.

Thanks! I think Ted's POV definitely needs to be expanded more in fanfic. And yes, Lily is definitely a slash fan. Hehe. :-)
