What is fancy?

Recently, I was watching the show Revenge and marveling at how young Madeline Stowe looks. I thought the same thing when I saw a picture of Winona Ryder. Looking at my own beginning-to-age skin in the mirror, I thought, "Maybe I should doing something about this situation." Then, I remembered that I'm not a real housewife of Boston, and regular ( Read more... )

On my short-ish list of "things to do someday when I have spare money lying around" are to pay a housecleaning service for a deep clean of my house, get a pro bikini wax, and possibly pay someone to edge my lawn and cut out all the goddamn junk trees. We do all our home improvement ourselves (with the exception of the nice gentlemen who are coming to install our countertops tomorrow!), and I find it hard to imagine paying someone to do groceries. I have totally priced wash-and-fold laundry services, but they are far above what I'm willing to pay.

I can't speak to the peel question, but then my reaction to buying a product recently (under-eye serum) that suggested that it should be added to my skin care regimen was "right! my skin care regimen! which I totally have!".

I had a housekeeper for a few months in Texas. He was a former student who needed a job, and it's very common down there (i.e. it is not expensive). In contrast, laundry and grocery shopping are two common industries here in Boston. I actually like getting groceries, but I would pay for the laundry if it were just a bit cheaper. I think it equals about $7 a load to wash and fold it, but IT'S RIGHT NEXT DOOR. So tempting.

My current skin regime is a wash cloth and generic Oil of Olay, so...

After living in our house for 4 years and having a backyard that was overrun with weeds, poison ivy, and all sorts of junk, we finally hired a company to come clean up our backyard once this summer. I have tried, unsuccessfully, for a few years to clean up the backyard myself (including, but not limited to, buying a machete to try and chop through the armpit high weeds!). Let me tell you - it was the best money ever spent! The tree that got knocked down from the tropical storm 3 years ago is finally gone! Yay!

I honestly do not miss having a yard one bit. Though not QUITE as tree-filled as yours, ours in Indiana was so much work and never looked quite like I wanted to.

I used to get my groceries delivered back in NYC when I was teaching middle school and getting my Master's at night.

I said "none" to everything. I really, really should get a haircut more often than I do, though.

I think you're way too young (and nice-looking) to consider any cosmetic procedures. But I am biased because I don't wear ant makeup ever and think our society is too image-oriented, blah blah, etc.

Aw, thanks. I'm happy with how I currently look, but I got rattled after seeing some older relatives of mine recently. They have similar skin to mine, and... it was rough. I was thinking maybe I should be approaching my skin proactively rather than retroactively, but I really don't know much about this kind of thing.

I love getting groceries, but I would totally pay to get my laundry done if it were just a bit cheaper. There's a place that does a load for about $7, and it's right next door. :(

Moisturize and stay out of the sun? :)

I just remembered -- I totally paid people to do my laundry back in NYC. It was not much more $$ than doing it myself (they do it by the pound).

I'm pretty low maintenance, do I don't do the manicure, pedicure, facial, waxing, hair color thing. That and I'm cheap. We do pay someone to cut our lawn, because he does it better than we would. I like having a nice lawn, but I don't like to spend our limited weekend time together on yardwork.

I'd love to have someone come clean a couple times a month to do bathrooms and dusting. But again. I'm cheap.

I honestly do not miss having a huge yard for exactly that reason. Chris and I invested so much time in our yard in Indiana, and it still never looked how I wanted.

I did have a housekeeper in Texas, but it's really common there, so it's cheap. In general, it's funny how where you live determines the types of services that are commonly used. Because it can be a pain to haul groceries around the city, that is a common and affordable service here. I never would have thought of it living in the Midwest, but of course, I love getting groceries anyway.

I periodically paint my finger/toenails, and Grant periodically rubs my feet with lotion - but there is definitely nothing going on around here to qualify as a home-done or bought mani/pedi. I took Ananda for a manicure once on her birthday because she'd asked for it ( ... )
