If I hear one more commentator on the Royal Wedding expound upon the fact that our dear Kate is living "every little girls dream" I am going to SCUREEEAM

Well, roast beef is good, but when I was a little girl, my dream was to become a nurse and marry Sting. I became a nurse and married a chef that knows what to do with a beef roast, so I am happy. Sorry Sting
Seriously, how could anyone with any awareness look at Diana's tragic life and want to be a princess
My dear, you are every bit as cool as Jo. And a whole lot funnier <333
After your e-mail but before you made this post, I carried your comment over to Beep--hope you don't mind. So far there are beepers who wanted to be Indiana Jones, Anne of Green Gables, Debbie Reynolds, Secretary of State, and a sentient ape...but not a single princess.
OMG JO. and Nat!!! <333333 References of my heart. Ahhhhh Jo Marsh aldskfjdalfkjldkasdj!! (have you ever read some of the fic springing from Little Women, just wondering... lol)
So much THIS to your whole post. This is awesome. My own daughter wants to be a doctor, President, head of the UN, a marine biologist and... well, you get the drift. And she wants all that even with the occasional foray into wearing a princess crown when she was a toddler. Actually she usually added fairy wings and a pirate sword. :D
I wanted to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, until I was old enough to take issue with the last scene, where Dorothy has learned that she should never look farther than her own back yard for her true heart's desire. FUCK THAT. I love Dorothy when she's dreaming of being over the rainbow, having grand adventures, making interesting and colorful friends who in turn make her more interesting and colorful. I'm disappointed in her when she settles for what's familiar and easy.
At age 4, I told my mom I wanted to be a cheerleader, or a nurse, or a teacher - those were the only jobs I could think of that women could do, way back in the dark ages of 1979 in West Virginia (I didn't actually know any cheerleaders, but they sure looked pretty on tv)! The only time I wanted to be a princess was at the school's fall festival when I was jealous of the little girl who actually won and got to wear the tiara, but that was because she was beautiful and popular and won everything, and I just wasn't.So from one dreamy, chatty overweight bookworm to

I love this--it's funny, I was thinking about Dorothy last night and wondering why she wasn't one of the ones I fantasized about growing up to be, since I did obsessively read the OZ books...and now I think I know. Although in her defense, like many of us, she can say she's happiest at home, the reality is that she keeps tumbling into more and more mind blowing adventures over the course of the books--and really seems quite content to wander!
And SAM--OMG you're right. Totally crushable. *mwah*
