My hair is so baby fine that combs never stay in and even tying a ribbon under my chin doesn't always hold. So occassionally I cheat and use hats mounted on headbands for some of my outfits. In a pinch, it works for me, especially if I am going to be dancing and the hat is in danger of constantly falling off of my head.

Combs will hold for me, but this is kind of an unwieldy piece and just feels like it needs to be better anchored. It looks like general sentiment is that a headband is okay, so I think I will go that way. Thanks!

I like the look, generally speaking, on other people. I think it can muddy the lines of an otherwise sleek hairdo, but if the band looks intentional, I say go for it.

The hair will be swept back at the sides, then put up and have some height (to help balance the fascinator) with, ideally, some cascading curls. When I did a rough test the headband looked okay, and it's definitely an "intentional" headband. (I too am not fond of the ones that look they just stuck the hat on whatever headband they came across.) Other people seem to think this is fine, so I think that's what I'll go with.

Philip Treacy and Stephen Jones have mounted fascinators on headbands, so as far as i'm concerned, anyone who has some sort of criticism of that mode of attachment can pack it in a round box and stick it where the sun don't shine.

I am typing this while i myself am wearing a fascinator on a large (1.5" at the widest point) headband, FWIW.

Heh, while I was out scouting some extra combs, I actually thought, "I should check what Philip Treacy does." Thank you, that helps.

Well, you could show it to me. ;-)

I don't mind the look, although I think it helps to have a very polished looking headband. Can you attach long ribbon to the headband so that it "ties" under your hair (or to the side)? That might combine several aesthetic elements to make it look more polished?

Nope, EVERYBODY gets a surprise. (Except my mother and Kambriel.) Plus I don't actually have time to take photos and upload them and crop them and post them, so.

I'm not a fan of the look (hats, that is, fascinators I give a little more leeway), but frankly, what works best for you is what you should use. :)

This is not technically a hat. It might even go beyond any reasonable definition of fascinator. I'm mostly hoping it doesn't look ridiculous. :P
