Layer masks are explained well here, if you aren't familiar with them. I don't know how they work in PSP, unfortunately, but I would be surprised if your program couldn't do this. Basically, masks make it so that only a part of a given layer is visible in the end product. When I say a 'light' layer mask, I just mean that it should be partially visible - the mask should be grey, instead of white or black. Oh, I've just googled a bit further, and there's some stuff about masks in PSP here. Maybe that will help you? Sorry I couldn't be more help, but I really know nothing about PSP.
