I basically take the last frame from my gif, select the layer and fill it with the color I want my gif to "fade out" to. You need to also add a layer with the same color to the bottom of your layers. Then select the second to last frame, go to animation options and click "Tween". It'll most likely have 5 frames as a default, change it into 2, and click okay, and you should be set!
I hope that helped some? I can try explaining it more if not. ;)
I just use tween and the original background of my graphic... like this effect.... It has a black background layer for everything (in the layers box) and in the animation box I just select the last frame and tween it (I selected 5 frames) since the black background is applied to everything, the gif just fades to the color of the background layer and you can play freely with the size of the graphic without altering the original animation ;)
step by step: get your animation ready - in the layers box go to the last one and click "create new layer" (you can choose the background color here or paint it yourself later or even put a texture and you can also change the size of the canvas if you want and move your gif around - in the animation box go to the last frame and tween it... in my case that just add frames so I select those empty frames plus the last gif frame and click tween again - and... it's finished :P
Only one small question: When I colour the new layer - let's say white - every layer is suddenly white. I don't see the gif picture anymore. What am I doing wrong?
ahhh, I know! then try putting the new colored layer on the opposite side... I said "in the layers box go to the last one and click "create new layer"" but I was seeing it like a list ^^U so maybe try going to the first layer and create the new layer there ^^ but the way you did it is useful when you want to put a text or effects that show in the entire gif, like the example I gave you, or you can put a picture there and delete just the part where the gif goes so it looks like a picture with a gif inside ;) I did that to put the words in my gif and to soften the borders of it ^^

Just one question:
How can I fill the layer with colour? Do I have to put a mask on it or something?
Everytime I try, the gif stops moving.
What am I doing wrong?
