Depends on what I'm capping.

1377x795 was the one that I first noticed. The file size is 1490K!

Most people who make screencaps nearly always use jpg format, since png is too large for so many files.

Thats the problem, it doesn't matter what format I save in they still come out huge. It's like anything saved on my computer in any program or format is huge.

I would use a customized Automator application to change the file type. Go to Applications > Automator and choose Application. Find 'Change Type of Images' from the list of actions and drag it to the grey area. The app will ask if you want to 'add a Copy Finder Items action so that the copies are changed and your originals are preserved' -- I would add it. From there you can choose where the images should be copied to and the file type the images should be converted to (JPEG). Go to File > Save As, choose a name and destination and make sure the File Format is set to Application. From there you can drag your image files right onto the Application and it will start converting them. If you have a lot of files, I would do small batches of 300-500 images.

So, doing the conversion from PNG to JPEG will usually cut the file size by a large percentage. If you still need to make the files smaller, try using ImageOptim. I hope that helps.
