Text on Animations

May 07, 2010 01:10

I can't seem to find anything about this, so I'm hoping someone can help me. I want to add text to my animations. I only can get text onto the animation or just one part because of the position of layers, but I want to add different texts.

Here's an example of what I want to do.

Here's an example of the only thing I know how to do ( Read more... )

animation: mini movies, animation: text effect, program: photoshop, animation: animated gifs

you need to merge the text layer with the image layer under it. rinse lather and repeat for all the images you want text on.

You mean add text to each individual layer and merge it down one at a time?

Someone else suggested this with pictures and I get it now. Thanks :)

I use Imageready CS2 so this might be a bit different for you, but I just go through frame-by-frame and make invisible the text layer I don't need when I don't need it. Does that make sense/help?

Hmmm, I don't understand how to make the text layer invisible for certain frames. I know how to make individual layers invisible but not the text?

your on spnp right?
thats one of Vampy's she totally wouldn't mind if you asked her about it... but if you don't want to do that then, what wottie has said is pretty much it.

What i do is create the text first, then animate all your frames, then only make the text layer visible on the frames where you can tell the subject (in this case Sam) is talking.

Stick with it cos text can be very fiddly but you'll learn the most by messing around and seeing what does work and what doesnt :D

Yup, I'm on SPNP. Ah, is it? I knew she made most of the gifs everyone in the comm ends up using, I just wasn't sure.

Hmmm... I don't think I understand how to make the text layer visible for certain frames short of just moving its layer position. All the frames aren't visible after I move them into animation.

Thanks, it took me a while just to figure out how to add text to some parts of a gif and not others >.

Actually it's pretty easy. I'm using CS3 but I think it adapts to other versions as well.

You can make all your text after you put all the frames on the layers. So let say you have 12 frames of Sam saying "Deep Breath, okay". All you have to do is select all 12 frames on the animation window and make the layer of the text that say "Deep Breath, okay" visible by click the eye on that layer.

Then when it cut to Dean's face you click the eye of the text layer again to make it invisible. It likes you turn off the text on Dean part of the animation.

And when it cut to Sam again do the same as the first step only with the layer that say "There, you feel better?".

The bottom line is only enable the text layer that you want it to make it visible on part of the animation that you want.

Hope all this make sense. English is not my first language. Let me know if you have any question. Maybe I should make a tutorial about this. :)

This sounds really straight forward, when I get back on my computer that has PS, I'll give this a try and see if I can follow what you're saying.

You do this after you've made the layers into frames and made it an animation?

A tutorial would be great, even if I figure it out. I haven't seen any tutorials anywhere dealing with this.

You can do the text before you open animation. Just open all the sceencap you have in layer window and the you make all the text so the the text layers are on the top layers. Then you open animation window and start animate them.
