Yay, I'm so happy that you take part in it ♥ I'd really love to know how you make... anime icons *blush* Many people are saying that it's so easy etc., but I don't have any knowledge, so I don't know even from what I should start... Also your anime icons are so pretty, that I wonder how you make them look better than others icons. I don't know if it's a difference, but I like the most icons from your newest entry and also Angel Beats ( icons from anime ).

First I resize the image, then move it to a 100x100 canvas. Then I duplicate it and set the duplicated layer mode to screen with opacity about 40-50%, depends on your image. Then I use the Vibrance adjustment layer (only featured in Photoshop CS5) to make the color more vibrant! Then I use various selective color/color balance/curves adjustment layers (about ~5 of them for each icon) to adjust the red -> orange, blue -> dark cyan, orange -> yellow. This will work best if your image is a colorful one.

Then I creat a new transparent layer, use a soft brush and set the foreground color to white, paint a blob over the suitable place in the icon. :)

Hope this can help. Feel free to ask anything else you want to know!

You're welcome!

Also you can duplicate the image twice, the first set to screen as I've said above, the second you can set it to soft light with opacity 30 -> 50% to make the contrast clearer!

I'm looking forward to seeing your results!

Actually no xD I use K-lite codec pack and use media player classic to play video files. As long as it have softsub (any file extensions (avi, mp4...) are okay, you can capture the subtitless image by pressing Alt + I. No need to print screen! xD You can learn more about this by trying google it!

Sorry that it took so long, I have a issue, because I didn't know how make last step in your instruction: 'Then I creat a new transparent layer, use a soft brush and set the foreground color to white, paint a blob over the suitable place in the icon. :)' So I missed this step and this is for example, results of it:

No problem! I'm glad to see your results!

It's really easy. When you're done with the coloring, creat a new layer, and use the soft brush in the default brush set of CS5, paint over anywhere you think it's suit, then decrease the opacity of this layer. The purpose of this step is to make an area of the icon looks a bit lighter :D

For example:
