I fell in love with Boland's poetry thanks to comps; I'm not a huge poetry fan. And, of course, I knew you were using her work for your thesis. For some reason I'd never thought about the fact that you were unable to relate to a lot of her writing about the female experience. I'm happy for you that you found a poem of hers that speaks to you on a personal level. I find that feeling a kinship to a work elevates the joy and appreciation I have for that work.

Yeah, it had been hard for some of them--although I could connect personally with her poems about history or poetry or the land, so it wasn't totally an intellectual connection.
