A Hotel Room in Nowhere, Rhode Island. Late Tuesday Night Fandom Time.

Apr 26, 2011 20:33

Emma couldn't face the idea of staying another moment in Massachusetts, and they couldn't get a portal back to the island until morning.

Besides, Rhode Island was probably the last place anyone would think to look for them, and therefore safest. The hotel was also almost completely empty, so the manager was willing to cut them a deal to get two ( Read more... )

"So," Jack said, sprawling in a chair like he owned it, "is anyone else exhausted? And can we call for pizza?"

He was trying to keep things light, but the way he kept watching Emma with concern was not as subtle as he would like to think.

Oh god, pizza sounded wonderful and yet disgusting at the same time. "Only if I can get breadsticks," Emma decided, not moving from her spot on one of the beds. "And some ginger ale or Sprite."

Jack nodded his assent, reaching to gather some takeout menus from a hotel room table. "Your stomach?" he asked gingerly. "I'm sure one of us could get something from the vending machine if you like...."

Emma gave him a weak smile. "I'm still a little dizzy, so I'm going to start small," she admitted. "Although I'm so hungry, I could probably eat the entire pizzeria."

Karla was fairly drained and was already fighting off an impressive headache, but she had another job to do before she could fall over like she wanted.

"Sit," she ordered Peter. "Let me take care of that arm before you...I don't know, get a bone shard in the kidney or something."

Best bedside manner ever.

"You know, maybe we should just drop me off at an ER," Peter said, barely still conscious. "I'm not exactly sure I'm okay with people using their fancy powers on me another time today."

Still snarky and bitchy through the pain. Sadly it was his coping mechanism.

And yet, he sat down like Karla said.

"Do you want to wear a cast for the next few months?" Karla snapped. "Because if you're going to keep sassing, I can add a jaw-brace to the list of things you need."

Her harsh tone was at odds with the gentle hands she laid on his arm. A whisper of Healing-Craft was coursing through his body, an arrow of warmth that sped through him and alerted her to all of his injuries.

"And let you keep the bruises for graduation if you want," she added dryly.

"Not like I need to look nice for my mom," Peter said. It wasn't that she wasn't able to attend.

It was more that he made sure she wasn't invited because he was going to be skipping town before the ceremony.

He gritted his teeth a bit, but he didn't resist whatever it was Karla was doing. He didn't put it past her to actually break his jaw if she wanted to. Not that he actually thought she was likely to, but he was having a few trust issues.

Alex wasn't hurt but he was quiet and he was really, really jonesing for a cigarette. The hotel room provided him a nice wall to lean against where he could rest his head and doze a bit.

He still wanted that cigarette though.

"You don't have to sleep on the wall, Alex," Emma offered dryly. "There space on the beds, or a chair, or something that isn't the floor."

"Who said I'm sleeping?" Alex asked, eyes staying closed even as he talked. "I'm just resting my eyes."

"Mmmm. Resting them so well, you might just nap right there," Emma replied.

"...If you actually have a cigarette, I will give you anything in the world to share it with me right now." It has been since Friday night, Alex. Friday. And the clearer-headed that Emma got, the more she was craving a smoke.

Sookie, meanwhile, was just going to close her eyes and thank God that her hair wasn't still crackling, and that she'd gotten out of this one without losing her mind -- again -- and maybe no one would notice if she just fell asleep in this chair.

Of course, she couldn't sleep, so she was fiddling with her phone, and sent Bobby a text so he'd know she was okay.

Emma looked over at Sookie and groaned. "My phone!" she realized. "My purse had my phone, my wallet, my driver's license, bank cards, everything." And her shopping bags, too. She had no idea what had happened to them after she'd been kidnapped; everything was probably all still back at the Clinic.

Look, she was going to focus on the little things, because otherwise all she could think about was the fact she was missing the better part of a week.

"We will cancel your cards in the morning and get you a new phone," Sookie promised, looking over at her. "New driver's license might run you like twenty bucks, though. And this is just an excuse to get you a new phone!"

Little things, indeed.

Emma winced and visibly recoiled at the idea. "I think I don't want to go shopping for a little bit," she confided. "They grabbed me on my way home from New York."
