In the middle of a desert a group of ten people huddled together. To be exact, there were eight adults and two boys, aged one and six, slowly making their way across the sand.

The earth started shaking underneath them and all of them grabbed a hold on the person next to them to hinder a fall to the ground. JJ tightened her hold on her son as Will set his arm around them both and Hotch pulled Jack as close as possible to his body. Only one seemed unaffected and stared up at the grey clouds above them.

“What´s going on?” Rossi yelled as the earthquake subsided and they could stand still.

“You have to keep going,” Reid said calmly and looked at them, “They are coming.”

Hotch stared at the young man. He had been the only one who hadn´t panicking over the events that had occurred over the past few days, although Hotch had made sure not to let his fear show. “Who are coming?”

Reid just smiled at him. “You better go. I don´t want anyone to get hurt,” he told his boss quietly.

“What?! No, you´re coming too…” Morgan claimed loudly, his hand still around Garcia.

“No,” Reid said with the same calmness. None of them had ever witnessed him so quiet or calm but through all the horror the past few days, he´d had been their rock and savior, knowing where to go and where they´d be safe from whatever was after them.

Reid set his gaze on Rossi, who nodded his understanding and pulled Hotch´s arm to get them moving.

“Spencer,” the dark haired man said and refused to go with the elder.

“Aaron, you have to go.”

“Not without you,” The unit chief argued and took the small step that separated them.

“You have to. Please, I can´t protect you from them,” Spencer whispered and looked pleadingly at the dark haired man, “You have to take care of Jack.”

“From whom? Tell me, who are you talking about?” Aaron insisted and fought back with Rossi, who was now tucking at his arm.

“You´ll see,” Spencer said quietly and broke the eye contact.

Finally the older stumbled backward, following the rest of the people, holding his son´s hand as he allowed Rossi to lead them away.

It seems like they´d walked for hours in the heated desert when they finally reached the mountain Reid had been leading them toward. Slowly they climbed, until they reached a large sill in the middle of the mountain. They all sat down to rest in the shadow and drink the water Reid had ordered them to take, all except for the unit chief, who turned around and looked back.

There, few miles away, he could see Spencer stand still in the desert facing away from them. He wanted to yell to him, to come and join them but felt a hand on his shoulder when he was about shout.

“Don´t,” Rossi said.

“What do you know?” Hotch asked and gazed at his friend.

“Enough,” was the only reply he got from the other man.

Hotch was about to question his old friend when the sky burst open with thunder. A bright light seemed to shoot from the sky only to hit the ground exactly where their youngest agent was standing and the rest jumped to their feet to stare into the dessert.

In the middle of the dessert where their friend had just stood, was nothing but white. All too slowly, it spread to each side until it spanned about five yards to each side of the sole person.

“Are those…?”Prentiss asked with disbelief as she stood next to her boss.

“Wings?” JJ whispered.

“He´s…” Morgan started but fell short of words.

“He´s an angel?” Garcia finished for him and wrapped her arms around the waist of her protector.

“What´s that?” Will asked and pointed toward the horizon. They all looked beyond the lone figure in the wasteland and watched as a cloud of blackness seemed to sweep at the speed of light toward them.

“Good God!” Rossi said and stared as the cloud quickly approached their beloved agent.

They all watched as Reid raised his hand toward the sky. The cloud stopped and seemed to hover as it moved on the spot, folding over and over again into itself. All of a sudden the cloud pushed forward and they watched as Reid stumbled before gaining his footing again and with all his might held the invisible force at bay.

They all saw him struggle.

They all saw him fall to his knee.

They all saw when the black cloud slowly swallowed him.

Garcia´s breath caught and JJ sobbed. Rossi and Prentiss shared a brief look before turning their eyes back to the cloud that seemed to have haltered.

The clouds above broke apart and bright light forced itself through the opening. Like glittering sun sticks, it poked the black cloud and for a while the humans watched as the dark battled the light for its price.

With a streak of bright light that blinded them all, it was over. They watched the empty spot where Reid had once stood. All signs of dark cloud and bright lights were gone but so was the single person who had fought for them against whatever powers had wanted them.

Garcia sniffled into the Morgan´s chest, Morgan comforted her by pulling her closer but his jaw was in fierce lock. Hotch and Dave looked at each other, both unsure of what had really happened, as Hotch picked up Jack and hugged him. Will pulled JJ and Henry into his arms.

None of them knew what would happen now. In the end Rossi and Hotch decided it would be best to spend the night were they where and start the walk again tomorrow.

Three long weeks later, back in their dull office of Quantico, Hotch was on his way to his office from Garcia´s office with results of a search he´d asked her to perform. A long grasp in trying to understand what had happened.

For three weeks they had watched the world go on like nothing had happened, the people around them didn´t seem affected of the event but they all knew it was real as they gazed at an empty chair by an empty desk in the middle of the bullpen.

He entered his office but froze as he saw who was standing by the window looking at the world outside. “Reid!!” The file fell to the floor and in three long steps he was in front of him, his arms wrapped around the thin torso that seemed no different than the last time it had been in his office.

“Umm, Hotch. You look kind of silly since no one can see me,” the young man said quietly.

The Unit Chief immediately let his arms drop. He quickly closed the blinds and the door before turning to face the mystery that had appeared in his office. So many questions stumbled around in his mind, he wasn´t sure where to start. “Are you really here?”

Smiling, Reid nodded. “I need to talk to you. I… ahhh… want to come back.”

Taken aback, Hotch sent the man a hard stare. “Come back?”

What seemed to be out of habit, Reid put his hands in his trouser´s pockets and looked at the floor in thought. “All the ugliness that you see in your work has its source. You are doing a good job at keeping it at bay, I want to be a part of that.”

Taking the few steps that separated them, Hotch looked at him. “So you are an angel?”

Reid smiled. “Yes, but I choose to walk the Earth.”

“What we saw in the dessert, what was it?”

“Fallen angels,” Reid said calmly and held Hotch´s hard gaze.

“Fallen angels?” Hotch fought the urge to shake his head in disbelief but then again, Reid had appeared out of the blue in his office. “What… where they doing? What did they want?”

“They wanted you, all of you because of the work you do and what you stand for. He,” Reid gazed upward toward the ceiling, “didn´t approve and interfered.”

Silence filled the room while Hotch tried to make sense of all of this. A thought struck him. “Why are you here now? You said I was the only one who could see you.”

“Have you noticed how the world seems… unaffected?” Reid asked instead.

“Yes, no one seems to know anything. All Garcia can find is unexplained phenomenon or Christian mythology.”

“If I come back, none of you will remember…” Reid smiled a small sad smile. “You will be like… them.” He gestured outside the window.

“Can you clarify?” Hotch said with a frown.

Reid chuckled, ignoring the hard stare. “You´ll have the feeling all you did was paperwork for a whole week. It will blend into your experience but you won´t be able to recall any events in that week.”

“Our memories will be altered?”

“Yeah, something like that,” Reid said quietly but kept watching some point outside the window, “It´s a condition He sets.”

“Are you asking me to choose between you coming back or remembering?” Hotch asked and set his hand on Reid shoulder to gain his attention.

Reid turned his head, facing the Unit Chief. “Is it right to keep the knowledge of the real enemy away from all of you? Because that´s what really being taken away from you.”

“I can´t tell you what you should do, but judging by the events of that week and what I know now, I think we´ll be safe with you by our side.”

Reid nodded in thought. “Thank you.”

Hotch smiled, patting the young man´s back. “Who is the real enemy?” Hotch asked him as he turned and gestured his couch but when he turned back the room was empty. A lonely white feather drifted through the air and landed on the floor. Quickly picking it up, Hotch stared at it before slowly running his figure along the soft strings. Later, he set the feather into an envelope and into his desk drawer.

Months went by. And one day, Hotch was going through his desk, throwing old papers away, filing others, when he came across the envelope. Looking at the feather, he knew he should know where it came from but the memory was cheating him. He had a strong need to look out into the bullpen and his eyes fell on Reid, sitting on Morgan´s desk laughing at something Prentiss had said. His gut told him that the feather had something to do with Reid but why was just out of grasp. When Reid looked up their eyes locked together for a moment before Reid looked away with a guilty look and took a seat at his desk. Hotch looked at the feather again and his fingers caressed the softness. Putting the feather back in the envelope and setting it back where he´d found it he was determent to find out what exactly it stood for.

-End.

A/N: I know Reid is considered atheist on the show but for the purpose of this fic I made him an angel. I used the pronoun, He, as to not point in one certain religion as I believe we have the right to believe in whatever we want. Please, do NOT comment on the religious aspects of this fic, this is fiction *points to the second part of the first line*
