The disenfranchised

I've been disenfranchised before. In fact in the last General Election the University and Returning Officer saw fit to remove me from the electoral roll less than a month after I had registered in person at the Guildhall. I was furious.

But how more furious would I have been if I had a valid volting card and has gone to vote at 8.30pm and by ( Read more... )

Pretty bad. Given we've got observers from various Commonwealth countries over to see how it is done in the Mother of Parliaments, I think they'll be teaching us a thing or two...

Why has it taken until now to realise our electoral system appears to be flawed on so many levels ?

I think it is partly because we've got complacent about about low turn outs and have staffed it to levels which are fine for low turn outs but can't cope with decent turn outs. I doubt there have been problems in N.I. where high turn outs are common.

I always take my card along. The first time, I thought you had to. After that, I knew it was an insanely laborious process, and that having the number with me would speed matters up.

It is a silly process, when you think about it.
