[After this]

It's not that he was expecting Cas to screw up, he just doesn't know of any other time he's been quite as lucky as he has been. Somehow, everything has gone according to plan, and he even has all of the money he won from the bar the night before.

It's the main reason he's now sat back in his car, having been sprung from the county jail ( Read more... )

It's only the relief that comes from having Dean back beside him again that keeps him from yelling at the hunter. He'd let himself get caught off-guard despite all the assurance he'd given beforehand, and if it hadn't been for the blood he could see, he'd be nowhere near as quiet as he is now.

He keeps to the far side of the car, tugging at his tie so he can loosen his collar again. He's tired, and it has nothing to do with his sleeping pattern that night. Despite all the help Iosif gave him, the lies he had to give were a lot more difficult than he'd imagined them to be.

"We have to collect our bags first." He isn't looking at Dean when he speaks; knowing it'll just make things that much more difficult to deal with.

The vague impression that he's in trouble is dulled by the pain in his head. He's not exactly on the ball, even after having to play his part when Cas had finally shown up to bust him out. He doesn't say anything else after that though, mainly because he can't be bothered to deal with a lecture having spent the night in a county jail with no sleep and a headache.

"Okay." He finally agrees, hand reaching for the keys in the ignition and missing. Twice. He really shouldn't be attempting to drive.

It's only the fact that the Dean takes so long to start the car that has him looking over, a frown fixed on his face. He only then manages to take in to account the state Dean is in, underneath the cuts and bruises. It's enough to make him break through his own mood and let his concern show. Briefly.

"Let me drive. You can rest at the motel and then we'll leave in the morning." He knows just how Dean feels about anyone else driving his car. Yet alone someone who's only ever been behind the wheel once. But right now, he'd rather take three times as long to get back to the motel than to leave the hunter to drive.

"No, I'm good." It's a lie, or maybe he's just that far gone that he really thinks he's okay to drive. Either way, Cas is going to have to be more persuasive than he is. Especially since Dean now has located the keys and twists to fire the car up.

Whether the night before was his fault or not, he knows he screwed up. He'd taken a while to actually decide on calling Cas purely because he thought he might have been able to get out himself. When he realized he couldn't, and that his list of people who might be able to had all of one person on it, he knew he didn't have a choice.
