does anyone have an ipod touch or know a lot about them?

my brother and mom want to get my dad one.

what all does it do? do you have to pay monthly for internet? how many games come with it, how much do new ones cost? you have to pay to download movies? it handles movies?

tell me everything you know.

It plays music and games. I don't think you have to pay for internet... it just piggybacks on whatever open wi-fi networks are already available. They're around $300. If you download movies from the iTunes store, you have to pay, but I'm sure it'll read the not-so-legal movies as well.

you have to pay for music and games too, right? I assume music is 99 cents like always. what are games? how do you get those? is it all as easy as itunes?

my dad says he wants a beard trimmer and 6 pairs of matching grey socks.

he does NOT want a blackberry. i just don't know how he'd feel about this...

You don't have to get the music from the iTunes store... as long as it's an MP3 it'll play. Most of my music was acquired from, ahem, other places.

The games though, I'm not sure.

If he likes music, games, and internets, he should like this. But if he doesn't want a Blackberry... I don't know :-/

yeah, i know how to put other music on, I do the same thing as you! I think I only ever buy music for my mom's fashion shows, and she pays me back for that crap :)

he has a broadband card for his laptop, so even on the train he gets internet. So, he gets it at home, on his commute, sits in front of the computer all day, again on the train, then home. This is why he doesn't think he needs the extra blackberry connection. Plus, he already refuses to text because he can't see the screen :-p I just. gah, I don't think so!

Dude, I have the original iPod...we're talking plain white, no color screen and freaking HUGE compared to what they are now. I got it last Christmas but haven't used it because a.) I don't know how and haven't bothered to learn and b.) the headphones that come with it are SO freaking uncomfortable and I have yet to find a pair I can stand. I'm such a loser and so very far behind the times. lol!

i got a nano for the christmas before Andrew was born, and hardly ever use it. He's always there, and i have to talk to and entertain him! He never fell asleep on walks in the stroller, so yeah. I am a loser too!

I have an iPhone, which you do have to pay for the plan but otherwise it works the same. The smallest one is $229: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_touch?mco=MTE3MzE

Music and movies, etc can be purchased from the iTunes store -- or any mp3 file works fine, you can rip CDs or use illegal music, whatever.

Apps range from free to maybe $10-15. There are a lot of great free ones, and several cute ones for $1 or so. Lots of fun toddler games, as well as entertaining ones for adults.

If you are on a wifi network, you can check your email, access the app and music stores, use the web browser, watch YouTube videos, etc. It automatically connects to open networks and you can easily access closed networks if you have the password.

I love my iPhone, I can't imagine life before it.

ok, so when he's on the train, he'd still have to be using his laptop broadband connection, not the ipod, since there is no wifi there? which I am sure of, cause I just asked, forgetting about his broadband card!

Yeah, this is basically a powerful MP3 player that can take advantage of wireless internet -- it doesn't come with a service plan.

But it sounds like he may not be that interested in the internet part, at least the part that involves typing, so he can easily use this to play music/podcasts, show off photos of the grandkids, watch videos, and play games, and if he wants to check his email he can pull it out at a Starbucks or something.

I have an ipod touch and I love it. If he has big fat man fingers, he may dislike it, since obviously everything is done by touching it ( ... )
