Summary: Dean honors his end of the crossroads deal, but Sam’s not ready to let him go. Temporary character death. Prequel to my drabble Starting OverCharacters: Sam, Bobby, and Dean

I'm glad you liked this, and that you found it both sad and hopeful. I wanted it to feel very bittersweet, because while it's a wonderful thing to save Dean from eternal torment, Sam's still lost him, in a way. This Dean won't be the Dean he knew before, and I imagine Sam will have some really tough moments ahead as he adjusts to that.
Btw, I'm really pleased you liked the ending. Before I started writing the story, I had this image in my head of it ending with Sam rocking Dean, but I wasn't entirely sure what the dialogue would entail. I was hoping what I came up with would feel right for that moment and in those circumstances. I'm glad it worked for you.
I'm glad you liked it, and that it felt both sad and hopeful. I definitely wanted it to have a bittersweet feel, because even though Dean's back and not in eternal torment, he's not the brother Sam once knew, and that'd have to hurt. A lot.
AWWWWW! Baby Dean!!
*g* I'm quite intrigued by baby!Dean, and how Sam (and Bobby) would react to him in various situations. Especially once he gets a little older and is more interactive, and can torture Sam in all sorts of baby ways.
*envisions Dean flinging food around the kitchen, refusing to stay clothed, etc.*
It's great hearing you not only liked this, but also that it struck a strong emotional chord with you. I was hoping this would really resonate with people, the awful pain of Sam losing Dean and then the very bittersweet emotions that Sam experiences once Dean's back, but not quite himself.
Equal parts heartbreaking and heartwarming, this really was a story beautifully told.
*nods* It's a very bittersweet thing. And in these early days, when Dean needs him pretty much 24/7, it has to be so tough, because Sam can't really escape the hurt. Every time he looks at Dean and realizes what he's lost ... *hugs him*
I'm glad you liked this so much, and flattered you'd like to read more in this 'verse. I'm definitely leaning toward exploring this 'verse more, whether it be in the form of drabbles or short pieces or longer stories.
Really sad to think how much Sam really misses *his* Dean, but I love that he sees this as his turn to watch out for his brother, to take care of him.
Yeah, this is a very bittersweet experience for Sam, but like Bobby said, Sam loves his brother a ton, and so he'll do right by Dean (although I'm sure there will be plenty of challenges ahead).

Poor Sam-has his brother back and yet he doesn't.
