Summary: That was it, then. Their last lead, worthless. They couldn’t fix Dean. Drabble, set after Dean’s deal comes due.

Bobby hung up the phone, expression grim.
“I’m sorry, Sam.”
That was it, then. Their last lead, worthless. They couldn’t fix Dean.
Eyes burning, Sam dropped his head into his hands. Tried to take comfort in the fact that at least they’d gotten Dean out of hell.
He still felt like he’d lost his brother.
“You okay, Sam?”
He pulled himself together -- Dean deserves better -- and looked up. “Yeah. I just … need some time to get used to this.”
Dean started crying then, and Sam took a deep breath, blew it out, and headed for the crib.
