Raised in the "I'm Ok, You're Ok" generation, I got the message that I could "be" anything (a doctor, a lawyer, an astronaut, how 70s!) except a housewife. Definitely got the message that staying home cooking and keeping house was a betrayal of my otherwise feminist values but my not-so-secret desire is to do exactly that. You wouldn't know it to look at my house now because I can't devote my time and talents to it (and I'm not driven to be some super woman who does it all) but I could run a kickass house if that was my full-time job.
Hmm, maybe this deserves its own blog post in the near future.
