What time do the bars close in Chicago? This guy sounds like he wasn't going to stop celebrating until the local constabulary insisted on offering their hospitality for the rest of the night.
In the city proper? I'm sure some of the bars are open 'til 3 or 4 in the morning.
Where I live? I checked the websites of the restaurants near me; two close at 10:30 and one closes at 1. Unless they were workers who stayed really late, they were probably people coming from a party at someone's house. That seems more likely, since...well, there was a bicycle involved, so there's a chance they weren't 21.
Had I had my druthers better about me, I would have assisted the constabulary. Alas, by the time I was fully aware of what was going on, I couldn't tell where he was and I doubt going "Yeah, just follow the yelling" would have been that helpful. I eagerly await the police reports to see if he got caught.
At least you didn't have it as bad as one of my friends does. He lives a couple of blocks from the stretch of Baxter Avenue that has FIVE Irish bars/pubs clumped together in close proximity. A day or two earlier, he sent an email to a club mailing list stating that he would not be attending this month's meeting, because he would never be able to find a parking space when returning home.
