While I didn't end up getting a camera for my birthday, it's entirely possible I could get one for Christmas...that is, if I give my dad specifics on what I want. And, also, that I don't break his bank. This certainly isn't the first time I've talked about cameras or asked about cameras, but now push is coming to shove, and I'd like some input on

Any price point that you're trying to keep under?

For me, I love that my P&S runs on a rechargeable lithium battery that inserts into the camera---rather than AAAs or whatever. In my opinion, AAAs don't tend to last as long as I'd like, whereas I can usually get hours out of the lithium. Plus, I never remember to buy batteries, so it's good for me to just have something to plug in :-) Other features that would be important to me if I were P&S shopping right now: when I press the button, I want it to take the picture pretty immediately. I don't like lag--I miss the shot if there's lag. Optical zoom is nice. I'd want it to take nice indoor and low light shots, though nighttime isn't super important to me. And I like *good* quality pictures...nice and sharp, lots of detail, great color.
