Going postal

May 15, 2007 18:07

As you may be aware, postage increased yesterday. It's now 41¢ to mail a letter. I knew this, being the mailroom monitor at work. Except that I completely forgot that the mail I dutifully stamped on Friday afternoon wouldn't go out until Monday morning, when each letter cost another 2¢. Whoops. Silly me--had I thought about it, I could have ( Read more... )

you know... you could have ridden your bike there in 30 minutes. You have nice bike paths prettymuch the whole way. You have to go out of your way a bit to go over the bike path bridge in Fabian FP, but still, its not THAT far. You should give it a try someday. Good exercise too, eh?

Are you talking about the route I had to take? Sure there are bike paths that way...but that's not the route I normally take. Yes, I realized walking/biking would have been faster that day. However, that is not the route I'd normally take. I live off Fabyan, I work off Fabyan; Fabyan is my route. There's only a bike path up until 31. There's no easy way to get across the river safely by taking Fabyan, and then east of 25, there's nothing as well. You may wish to bike on Fabyan during rush hour, but not me.

And you also assume that I've ridden a bike in the past 15 years.

no no, there's bike path the whole way! You cross 31, and the fabian path continues down the the fox river trail. Take the fox river trail north into Fabian Forest Preserve, and cross at the bike path bridge there and then head south on the east side fox river trail. Just before you reach the fabian pky bridge, you will see a bike path heading up out of the valley to the east just north of the bridge. Take that up and it will cross 25 and continue to parallel Fabian all the way to the NW corner of Kirk and Fabian at which point you can cross kirk and head south on the Kirk Road bike path south, which I assume will take you towards this small manufacturing facility you work at ( ... )

I'm actually west of Kirk; if I hit Kirk, I've gone too far. Driving there, it's less than 3.5 miles. I take a slightly different route home (because I am not about to make a left onto Fabyan during rush hour), so round-trip it's about 7 miles.

I don't know that biking is for me, but you've given me something to think about, at least. Oh, and I got your email as well. I might play around with that site to figure out a path. No promises, though, but it might give me something to think about for the next time I'm caught in horrible traffic.
