Going postal

May 15, 2007 18:07

As you may be aware, postage increased yesterday. It's now 41¢ to mail a letter. I knew this, being the mailroom monitor at work. Except that I completely forgot that the mail I dutifully stamped on Friday afternoon wouldn't go out until Monday morning, when each letter cost another 2¢. Whoops. Silly me--had I thought about it, I could have ( Read more... )

no no, there's bike path the whole way! You cross 31, and the fabian path continues down the the fox river trail. Take the fox river trail north into Fabian Forest Preserve, and cross at the bike path bridge there and then head south on the east side fox river trail. Just before you reach the fabian pky bridge, you will see a bike path heading up out of the valley to the east just north of the bridge. Take that up and it will cross 25 and continue to parallel Fabian all the way to the NW corner of Kirk and Fabian at which point you can cross kirk and head south on the Kirk Road bike path south, which I assume will take you towards this small manufacturing facility you work at.

As for not riding a bike for 15 years, no time like the present to get back in the saddle! You can start by just riding around the neighborhood. Eventually, drive with your bike in the car to work one day and then ride home that afternoon... and then ride to work the next morning to get your car. It looks like it would be about 5 miles each way, 30-45 minutes. A perfect amount of daily exercise. You'll probably want to go slower in the morning so you don't work up a sweat and then you can go at whatever pace you want in the afternoon.

I'm actually west of Kirk; if I hit Kirk, I've gone too far. Driving there, it's less than 3.5 miles. I take a slightly different route home (because I am not about to make a left onto Fabyan during rush hour), so round-trip it's about 7 miles.

I don't know that biking is for me, but you've given me something to think about, at least. Oh, and I got your email as well. I might play around with that site to figure out a path. No promises, though, but it might give me something to think about for the next time I'm caught in horrible traffic.
