23andMe and my dad

A while back, I got my dad a 23andMe testing kit, one of the basic ones. It's partly because some of the DNA information is blocked to me unless I have a close male relative connected to me, since I lack a Y chromosome. I did them too. I have more Neanderthal DNA than 78% of the people they’ve tested. 259 variants. I was lucky enough to get my grandmother to do it as well before she passed to help iron out stuff on my moms side…still like you my dads side is a mystery.

The Neanderthal thing is wild. When I had read an article a few years back about how Covid connected to people with more DNA and it having worse results I wondered if one of my variants helped lead to that clotting.

Yeah my wife and her parents results change frequently but that’s because they are from the Caribbean and the sample selection from there is small compared to elsewhere. As more join/are added they comment about their constantly updating information.

My token.1% is actually Southern Indian and Sri Lankin. Which supports a real old family tale about someone a good bit back marrying someone from there who had come over to the Balkans centuries ago.
