Independence Day: Duds all around
I want to go into this further, but I also need to make a timely post as well: Our fireworks were canceled last night. We actually went, me and mom and Laura and her family, and we got there around 8:30, where Laura promptly spend about the next half-hour in line getting shave ice for her and Munchkin. While she was gone, I pulled out these glowsticks that I bought for camp back in the day and never used, figuring hey, perfect time to use these up. Except they were duds. The first one, blue, went on Munchkin's wrist, but in short order it cracked open, meaning it was unsafe to wear. I then had two more that cracked, and the rest did not appear to glow. I swear that first blue one did glow but the rest did not. So now it's 9:30, and they're playing the traditional fireworks music to start, and the Star-Spangled Banner plays, and the first song for the show is the Top Gun theme...and there's nothing. We got halfway through the song and then a guy got on the PA system to say, sorry, there was a malfunction and there won't be fireworks tonight. He even added, this is not an April Fool's joke; there really won't be fireworks. ...Oh wow. The fireworks canceled themselves. I have never seen this happen in 30+ years. I will say I got home in record time, though the reason for that will have to wait for the full report.
