My email from Joann saying my fabric order was ready for pickup came on Friday. I didn't see it until I came home from work, by which time the store was already closed. No worries; I'll go on Saturday. There were instructions in the email to call the store's phone number, give my name, order number, and make and color of car, and wait patiently ( Read more... )

Nothing wrong with old sewing machines! They’re workhorses and often better built than today’s, like so many things. The new ones are computerized and have some fancy features but I learned on my mom’s which I think was from the 60s. I later got one for Christmas in the early 90s that was a nicer brand (Viking Husqvarna) and had a few upgrades, but it’s still a mechanical machine and doesn’t have all the fancy stitches and stuff. Works for what I have needed over the years. I can crank out a mask in about 20 minutes from cutting to being able to wear it now that I have it all down!

Yeaaah... I feel like I've seen this machine at some point over the years and it will, like, chisel a tablet for you. If I found it, I'd probably fool around with it, but I've only ever sewed by hand and while it's slow-going, I'm okay with it. I put on Little House reruns for a few hours and I'm good.

Though 20 minutes vs. 2 days is quite the trade-off. :P

I'm pretty sure we've had sewing machine discussions in the past--I've thought about getting one, but I think I'd use it so infrequently that it wouldn't really be worth it. Plus, I don't have a place to store it or really use it. So...by hand it is for now.
