Buster

There's an area car salesman for a Subaru dealership in the north suburbs who's been appearing in commercials for about a year now. There's been a few such salesmen over the years that we've come to know, but this one has a bulldog who appears with the guy in his ads. I got all excited the other day because the dog's name was revealed in a recent commercial. That led to this conversation this morning.

*ad appears on TV*
Me: Oh, I saw a different ad the other day and found out the dog's name! It's Sunny!
Dad: Oh, really? Looks more like a Buster.
*pause*
Dad: Buster's a good dog name. I've decided that if we ever get another dog, we're naming it Buster.
Me: You're getting a dog?
Dad: You know the rule. We're not getting another dog until you have children.
Me: I'm pregnant.
Dad: No, you're not.

Damn. He never goes for that.

But it's funny that he's thinking of dog names and that he has a name picked out for his next dog. The rule to which he's referring is no more pets; he was too sad when Gizmo, our 15.5-year-old Lhasa apso, passed back in 2000, to want another pet, so when Kirby died in 2014, that's it, no more. I'd had a pet continuously from the age of 3 to 36, so it was an adjustment, but at this point in time we've gotten used to not having an animal and life is freer. Especially given the health issues both Gizmo and Kirby had toward the end (his last few months, her last few years). But it's good to know the door is still open.
