Camp: Tuesday

Jul 31, 2018 11:32

I have to say, camp this week would have been on the cool side, at least until the weekend. Thanks to my phone's weather app, I saw that it was in the upper 70s there yesterday and might hit 80F today. It's overcast here today, and I saw something that said NW Indiana might get scattered showers. Yesterday, it was foggy in the morning over there, which makes everything a little mysterious. I miss that.

What else would I miss about Tuesday...
--If it was a still morning, waking up and walking past the lake mirroring the surrounding trees
--Actually getting to sit down and eat breakfast
--Actually getting to sit down and play during morning rehearsal
--The kids falling into the camp routine, knowing where to go and at what time
--Visiting the sectionals I wasn't able to see on Monday and seeing how everything's going
--Watching whatever activity got selected for the morning activity period--many of the kids would participate or at least watch
--Checking on the non-participants gathered under the pavilion playing cards, making bracelets, just talking, etc.
--Eating the traditional Tuesday lunch of PB&J plus chicken noodle soup, because no matter the weather, the soup is popular
--After-lunch snacks and seeing what candy is popular this year (though, truthfully, I'm not sure how this would have gone for me this year--I haven't had candy since before Lent)
--Afternoon sectionals with the older kids, same deal
--Tuesday free time means nature walk time, where I meander around the lake and end up at the chapel to take pictures of B Band rehearsal
(--Though I won't miss the stupid bug that starts buzzing in my ear EVERY TIME I get about 2/3 of the way around the lake and basically chases me out of there--must be a nest in a tree or something)
--Seeing if I'd spot the beaver or whatever I spied, very briefly, in the lake last year
--Wandering down to the beach to take pictures of the swimmers and volleyball players
--Riding to the mailbox to drop off and pick up letters just as dinner starts (this is a daily task, but usually there are letters by now to go out)
--Just driving the golf cart in general
--Really getting into the more difficult pieces of music--they're saved for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, when we're most ready for them and the counselors are at the rehearsal
--Possibly going on the evening hike
--More cookies and apple slices for the evening snack
--Hearing all the crazy stories at the counselor meeting, like the stuff from the dorms I'm not privy to
--Relaxing under the stars with a citronella candle burning (and likely blowing its smoke in my face...I tend to attract smoke for some reason)
--Eventually going to bed and falling asleep pretty quickly because all the fresh air, walking, and personal interactions tire me out, but in a good way
