Truthfully, it's librarian, masked, but I liked that title better.
We had our third session last Thursday; Marian was back, but Mrs. Paroo wasn't there, meaning nothing got catalogued in the computer, only sorted. It takes time to sort through all this music, and we're all doing it differently. I'm making sure it's entirely in score order. Amaryllis, if she notices there is a separate set of parts (i.e., if someone pulled one of each part, perhaps to make copies), will leave them separate. These pieces of music were played by a community band, and we're finding programs in the envelopes with the songs. The director is pulling them out. I'm leaving them in. I also realized I was doing something wrong--we are finding duplicate songs to what we already have, and we were told to put them in a particular place and we'd go downstairs to our actual band library and compare which set was better. I didn't realize at first that we still should have been sorting through the songs for parts. Oops. So there are pieces that may or may not be complete. Oh well. Now I know better.
I guess I could claim that the mold was getting to me. It's true; I left the first two sessions with a headache. So, before Thursday's session, I went to the store and picked up a set of face masks. You know, I don't care if I look like a dork; I need to protect my health. And I can tell that it's affecting the others because I hear them sniffling and sneezing as the night wears on. Marian had said she could feel it in her throat, that being in that air made it scratchy. She said that after the first session. It's starting to get cooler outside so I don't know that we'd ever open the windows back there, but it does appear they should open. That could help. All I know is that we won't have another session for a few weeks as the director and his daughter are fishing this week, and next week he had a procedure. It's essentially outpatient and he should be up and walking that day, which is impressive considering it's a form of a hip replacement, but he won't be up for this. That's fine. We're realizing that you don't have to be there every time in order for things to get done. But it's nice to be able to simply go home, not gonna lie.
I still had band on Monday, but at least that was slightly more exciting than usual--the piccolo player had to go out of town, so I got to take her place. I'm a little more comfortable doing it now that I've done it a few times, and having a head's-up from her meant I got to practice a little. Not that it matters, since it's just the second week, but some of that stuff's not easy and it doesn't always follow the flute part--especially the second flute part. I think I did okay and someone told me I sounded less shrill than the regular player; I told him that was because I purposely didn't hit all the high notes. Some of them are obnoxious and my lip just wasn't there. So, down the octave it is. Nobody complained, so I think it was fine.
