Woo-hoo for a long day yesterday.
We normally have staff meetings on Wednesday mornings, but my boss had a meeting elsewhere this week and it got postponed until Friday. And then he didn't show up right away. Everyone else was there who'd normally be there at the start--one guy is consistently late, for reasons only he really knows--but eventually the boss showed up and we had a productive meeting. I then set about what has been my regular Friday task for a few weeks now: Prepare for off-site stuff. Because I've been doing this for a few weeks now, I have a plan, and it's a matter of adding and subtracting things. It went faster than last week, at least, but I still stayed two hours later than normal.
That's because we also are hosting something this weekend, so we had to get stuff set up for that. This involved moving things around, setting up chairs, that sort of thing. So, I'd have to stop what I was doing for the off-site deal and move something, then go back to what I was doing, then move another thing, and back and forth for a bit, in addition to some of my regular tasks. Fun, fun.
At least I got injury and illness updates. My ill coworker apparently was doing better and came in yesterday, but after he'd gone home he must have just napped and napped. Well, that's good; rest is important when you're sick. Everyone was amused by the "hundred and three" temperature story, though. As for the adjunct with the head bump, he did come in and was doing better. He did not need stitches, which was good, and it turns out his neighbor was a former ER person and helped keep an eye on him the rest of Thursday--as in calling him once an hour to make sure he was okay. Wow, that's nice. He was still on concussion watch when I saw him, which was over 24 hours after the accident. His bump still hurt but looked lower than it had been initially, but it was covered by a different bandage, more like a piece of white medical tape. He was in good spirits, though.
Me, though, I managed to do something weird to my hand. When I get in the car in the morning, I crank up the defroster and then pop my trunk to get at my scraper. While popping the trunk yesterday, there was a twang of sorts. I felt something sort of snap funny, like the ligaments of my thumb and one of the rest of my fingers rubbed up against each other or something. My hand felt odd the rest of the day. All my fingers move just fine, and it didn't hurt, exactly; it just felt strange. And I was grabbing things and typing notes, more so than normal, so maybe that aggravated things. Once I was home for good I did wrap it in an Ace bandage and left it like that all night, which seemed to help.
Meanwhile, I got home semi-late and immediately had to make dinner. My father was kind enough *cough* to preheat the oven and start water boiling for what I'd wanted to make, coconut shrimp and this harvest grain salad kit. He mentioned that mom was looking to go to Costco that night. See, they did a presentation at her job the other day and she signed up for it. We haven't been members in years; we did it right after they opened the one by us. However, Sam's is literally down the street from us, so we hardly went. But mom loves a deal, and she got swag, so what the heck. She'd wanted to go there to get IDs for her and my father. So, after a day of running around doing stuff, I then got to go stand on a concrete floor for another hour. Joy.
Mom and I hardly go to Sam's anymore, so to her Costco simply felt like they'd really rearranged our Sam's. It didn't seem all that different from before, once we finally got to walk around. It took at least 15 minutes for them to get helped. I waited across the way and watched people walk by. I started playing count the pizzas; I think there were six ready-to-go pizzas and one take-and-bake that I saw before they were done. We did wander around for about an hour, and while we didn't go down all the aisles, we went down enough. Our big purchase was an iron, as mom's been wanting a new one for a while now. We also loaded up on single-serve packages of hummus and guacamole. Mom was just excited that I found something I could eat. A lot of their food has cheese in it. Yeah, a Friday during Lent is pretty much the worst time for me to go to a place that has samples. And the one sample I could have, fish, wasn't exciting enough for me to want it. I said I was fine because I'd already had dinner. It wasn't a lie, but I just wasn't interested, truthfully.
We were all pretty tired by the time we got to the checkout lanes, so we were glad to go home. But it was interesting, and now we have a year to go there again. And, well, it got us out of the house on a Friday night. You take your excitement where you can get it sometimes.
