I've yet to read a single story in the past two months. At least, I think it's been that long. There has just not been a damn thing worth going past the first two paragraphs on. If there were paragraphs. A lot of stories are turning out to be audio transcripts without attribution. It's the usual dreck, jumping povs, OOC, shit writing, mary sues, 2D ( Read more... )

I think once you start reading a lot and/or writing, you tend to find styles you like and styles you really don't. I really can't read second person, it just feels stilted and wrong, I just can't get into it and rarely have been able to. It would take a very special fic to get me involved if it's second person ( ... )

That's funny, because I am having to train myself to get used to writing in first person again. I got out of it because most people who write in first person are shit at it.

Example of First Person: It's been a long time since we saw the fires of Tierra Del Fuego. My ancestors once graced the isles. Now, there's only the memories of events I will never experience again.

Example of Third Person: Where once stood the mighty trees of the forest, John built a home. The wood had been harvested and shaped to form the timbers. Never again would the spirits play among the oaks.

In third person point of view, you have a central character or multiple characters as the focus of your story. POV is simply how the story is being told.

Ah right, then I usually go with third person past tense- seems to flow better.

I think a lot of people who write it aren't brilliant but it's hard to pull off. If you know your own characters inside and out then it's much much easier and that's fine with original fic because an author should know them. With fanfic everyones' interpretations of a character can be different that I find it hard to read a first person interpretation.
