That's very interesting about Thor and Asgardian culture. (Are you following Thor week on Tumblr?)

"The Great Cat Massacre" by Robert Darnton is an interesting book about peasant culture...more the 1700s than medieval times, but it talks a lot about feudal society and your second point reminded me of it.
