i wish i could leave a more eloquent comment, but thanks for the article on geek culture - it was a really fantastic read.

I know what you mean about story fragments. Which is why I write all of mine down, so I don't forget them later, when I might actually use them!

Re: sexism in geekdom -- probably more a reflection of our fucked up sexist culture as a whole than geekdom itself...not that either form is OK, mind you...

I've begun to do that myself. I hope I can find a use for them!

I suppose it is more indicative of society's views as a whole, this is true. I just see it more in the geeks amplified since that happens to be a subculture that me and many of my friends happen to be into. The same behavior does happen at concerts and the like, but there tends to be more security action that I have found at those places.

Well, even if you never use them, no harm no foul, right?

but there tends to be more security action that I have found at those places.

Hm. Maybe that's something Comic Con and other venues like that need to look into.

The nerd/geek culture in the US is so different from the geek culture in Norway - I feel so detached from the online discussions on this at times, that I just sit back and choose to let most of it run past me. I'm sad to hear that fellow geeks can be such bastards.

It is off-putting, that is why I always try to work and change it. Because hobbies are not gender exclusive.
