I'd like to believe we can reconcile the past

Here is a bit of a ramble. I was raised on grunge music. Man with gritty voices and long hair dressed in flannel, girls screeching about how society sucks, low deep guitars growling out over the garage. These are the images that paint my psyche at a very young age. Some part of me still loves my acid washed jeans and T-shirts. (They ARE really ( Read more... )

Music definitely influenced who I became. I can't say I was ever into grunge music, though. I don't know why. And I don't really know what I would call the music I was into. It varied widely, and a lot of it came from my dad. I was born in 1988, so in the 90s through the early 2000s I remember listening to Beatles, Madonna, Ace of Base, Garbage, Aerosmith, Alanis Morrisette, Celine Dion, Aqua, Beach Boys, They Might Be Giants, Cranberries, Eagles, Elton John... And then I started getting into my own music, and today it's all over the place, but when I was like 15 I remember really liking Switchfoot, Dido, and John Mayer.

When I first got into chart music it was a time of very formulaic, light pop music. I liked some of it well enough, but didn't really connect with it. Hard rock and then grunge, were the first types of music I really made a connection with. But it's hard to say whether the music influenced me or whether my personality influenced which music I was attracted to. A bit of both, probably. The fact that grunge went mainstream probably did prompt me to become more of a music lover and to seek out the darker, less mainstream stuff that I ended up loving.

Playing a younger girl could be interesting as long as the game doesn't go on long enough that she reaches that age ( ... )
