He asserted that most people (being nonsmokers) hated going to restaurants and would start going more if they didn't have to deal with smoke. being a non smoker who lives with a smoker, i have a LOT of conversations about this.

i basically agree with you.

my position is that it should always be completely up to the owner of the bussiness what's allowed and what isn't, and there's no place for legislation in any of this. i'd also like to mention that while i sometimes opt for a resteraunt that's entirely non smoking for respitory reasons, all the cool kids are in the smoking section, and i often find myself sitting there even when im alone.
at least in the smoking section there's rarely a crying baby next to you.
