Completely valid, if painful, explanation for the switch in living arrangements. If I think hard enough on it, I would think the switch happened sometime after Escape Velocity, but it's summer and I refuse to use more than 33% of my brain cells. Yours fits better with what was going on personally.
I don't think I've read anything of yours that didn't fall into character. Go girl!
