No, I mean, in terms of married Japanese women here, they're assumed to take their husband's names, but it seems like according to the article, many of them assume their maiden names for health insurance and so on.
Actually I'm not surprised by that at all, they're a quite insular country that's very stuck in their traditions, I'm not sure where you get this picture of a progressive country from. XD
I would have thought the treatment and stereotypical expectations placed on women in Japan would have been a tip off?
hahaha Progressive in terms of their technology then, because you're right :) Their thinking is definitely still very traditional - women should become housewives and take care of the children; they can usually only hold part-time jobs; yadda yadda yadda :P
