I just inadvertently got roped into working on my business unit's website (not the corporate website, which is not quite as bad). I was always aware that the site was terrible. I mean, it's just ugly to begin with. They have a bunch of tables with an iframe in the middle, so you get the whole double-scrollbar effect that's so unusable. And

I think that TD is perfect proof of why Joel Spolsky was right in his assertion that "Be conservative in what you do, be liberal in what you accept from others" is wrong.

My goodness. My head asplode. That's like the HTML equivalent of some of the worst homework I had to grade.

As for the matter of someone getting paid.. anytime the work's that bad, you can bet they got paid a lot more than whoever comes in and cleans it up. (Based on anecdotal evidence from worsethanfailure.com.)
