On CNN they're reading off the names of the kids who were killed in the Virginia Tech shootings, which is fine. I don't object to that in principle ( Read more... )

The Lehrer news show on PBS does. I try to avoid everything but that and the BBC world news. The rest just pisses me right off.

I know. But the only people I know who watch The News Hour are suburban liberal yuppies like me :/

Yeah, I was gonna mention the Lehrer show, but I'm just another one o' those suburban liberal yuppie types. :p (I usually get the Lehrer show via my local NPR station, which unfortunately doesn't do voice-over on the names (which are broadcast in silence.) :/ )

CNN does maintain an up-to-date list of the Iraqi casualties too, with photos and details: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2003/iraq/forces/casualties/

But I guess since it's such an ongoing thing, it's not always "front and center on their main page". :/

Well, it's understandable when news like this that's closer to home takes center stage. It's just sort of troubling.

Not to mention that the intense focus on the 'lone gunman' aspect only serves to make him something of a hero. There's already 'Cho-kun' fanart for fuck's sake. I guess that's an inevitability, but the media doesn't help in times like this.

(Note: the link above says "2003"; but it's actually up-to-date as of April 14 2007. Can view the names alphabetically or by most-recent date.)
