Fantastic. I like the (tm) after heart of gold in the first part. I also like the thought of Cassidy being happy for Lilly and having hope for himself because I don't think he ever had it in canon. That's what makes Cassidy so damn tragic for me, I think. All of the things he does, he knows that in the end, they aren't going to mean anything. *Sigh* Poor Cass.

The interaction with Cassidy and Duncan is interesting because you don't think of them even moving in the same circle, even though it'd make sense. Dick was always Logan's friend, not so much Duncan's. It makes some kind of weird sense, Duncan confessing that to him, like maybe he thought Cassidy wouldn't judge him like the way Logan or another one of his friends might.

Sorry to ramble. I'm really enjoying this fic!

Wow, thank-you for your detailed comments.

Mmm - I think a big factor in what shaped him and his actions, was hope or lack of it. The thing is, in one world it's too late and in one it isn't.

I assume they must have talked at some point, if only through the Cassidy-->Dick-->Logan-->Duncan chain. Duncan is screwed up and very, very drunk at this point; he wants to unleash this on someone, and you're right, Cassidy might not judge him.

I feel so bad for him, thinking he doesn't matter at all. This is the type of person that I probably would've been friends with in high school; the quiet, brooding boy that feels invisible.
