From one of my favorite fairy tales, Bluebeard. This illustration is by Kanako Tanabe and shows the moment when Bluebeard's (last) wife is pleading with him not to kill her.
I love that you post these images, and that's a great website you linked. Illustration is a much underrated art form (in my opinion). Arthur Rackham is my overall favourite fairy tale illustrator.

My favourite children's illustration of all time and the main reason I rescued only this book from the family home. I'm trying to work in a similar style for a story of my own but can't work out what kind of print? woodblock? collage? it is. Fantastically frightening aged 8 and 48. Just what a fairytale ought to be... great choice you. Peta x

Hi Peta, It's definitely some type of printmaking, whether wood block or something else. I suspect it is linoleum block/linocut based on the image (smoothness of shapes and lines) but I could be wrong. They could also be monotypes but I think, because of the way the pigment is layered, it's probably a block print.

It's definitely some type of printmaking, whether wood block or something else. I suspect it is linoleum block/linocut based on the image (smoothness of shapes and lines) but I could be wrong.
